Life After Divorce - Living As A
Single Mom
Unveil the
Mask:
2004, one
week before Christmas, it’s snowing, I and a moving truck are on
our way to my new beginning, my new home in West Chester, Ohio.
3 bedroom, walk in closet, 2 ½ bath, finished basement, 2 car
garage, mmm this is better than what I had, mmm God, you showed
out, huh??
Unbelievable,
I Nicole am free, on my own with 3 children, 2boys, 1
girl.....Reality check, alone with 3 kid’s? Oh My! Thru it
all....I made it, God, my family, and me.
I was married
for 8 years. Definition of my marriage: Unequally yoked, wrong
reasons to marry, too high expectations, issues on top of
issues, unhappy with self, insecurities, loneliness,
disappointments, emptiness, voids...... looking for one another
to fill the void, you can’t, because you’re empty, looking to
the wrong one to fulfill, fix, complete all of these things!
Now I’m angry
at myself, how in the hell did I get in this situation? Thru
it all, God blessed me with three wonderful children, Darius,
Dejah, and Devin. Children are enough to hold this
marriage...it will get better, right?
House, cars,
good job, business, kid’s, perfect American Family, it will get
better.....
Well, ok,
let’s compromise....get in position women! I sold my Salon to
go home and raise my children, become a homemaker. Sacrifice!
Still hustle on the side, doing hair to make ends meat. Big
transition! Now I’m really, really mad because I’m broke,
begging mom and dad...now this don’t feel good either, as a
matter of fact, I feel worse.
Within those
5 yrs, my household, my marriage became more dysfunctional ,
why?
Unequally
yoked! If your marriage is not grounded on God the father and
his rules on marriage in his sight......Unconditional love and
respect for one another....It will not work!
And because
of all of this..... I began to die Spiritually! It was time to
run for my life and live again for the betterment of my children
and myself!
Life as a
single mom is hard, but I’ve allowed God to take total control
of my life, and he directs me in everything I do. I am no
longer in total control of my life. My life is not my
own....this is a beautiful thing! Because of my obedience to
God, he has blessed me over and abundantly, I have true favor
over my life.
During my
divorce, I prayed a lot, and spent time alone. Me and God. I
asked God to cover my children. I prayed that God would remove
any generational curses that may be in the blood line of both
sides of the family. Curses of alcoholism, drug additions,
promiscuity, homosexuality, fear, anger, obesity, abandonment
and insecurities! And so it is done!
During this
transition, I realized that I need help, I can’t do this by
myself. Asking God to direct me in this transition, God showed
up and sent help! My children visited a child psychologist, to
make sure they understood divorce and why mom and dad were not
together anymore. It’s a process, but it was all worth it.
This was all led by God, I would have never thought to do any of
these things. You must be very open with your children during
divorce, hold no secrets.
Also, it is
very important to try to develop a cordial relationship with
your ex, if the situation is safe. It is very important if you
have children. I prayed that God would send positive role
models in each of my children’s lives, it take s a village to
raise children.
This may seem
a lot, but well worth it. God is God, I couldn’t do any of
these things mentioned, if God wasn’t leading it all, God is in
total control. Having a wonderful support system is always
helpful. God has blessed me with a loving family who have been
very supportive at my home, with my children, and my business.
I thank them and I love them! Thank you God for blessing me
with my family.
Being a
single mom, is hard at times, but life is hard, but prayer
changes things. Having a true relationship with God, thru all
your trials, God carries you thru them! You’re not alone!
Having God as the head of your life, developing relationship
with God, having conversations with God, surrounding yourself
with positive people, delete all negatives in your
life..........makes life a little smoother.
Life becomes
more pleasant, some trials will come, but when you give it all
to God, the good and bad....life is alright! I love my life now,
I’m happy, I have peace of mind, I’m clear on who I am and what
God has purpose me to
be.
Salon Favor,"
specializing in healthy hair care”, becoming president of BOBSA
(black owned beauty supply assoc) Ohio Chapter, where we’re
regaining economic disparity among the black hair care
industry.......all of this has come by allowing God to take
control of my life totally! God is an awesome God! There is so
much more God has in store for me!
If there is
one advice that I could give to divorcees, it would be
this....ask God to soften your heart so that you may be able to
forgive your ex. Forgiveness is a huge part of the healing
process, forgiveness helps you! Forgiveness allows you to move
on with your life pain free. Begin a new chapter in life on a
positive.
I pray all
find peace, love, joy and happiness in ....Life After Divorce.
Peace and
Blessings.

Transition From
Religious 2 Spiritual
In
the name and thru the power of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit take control of my
circumstances, my conversations, and my situations,
through faith as I surrender my will 2 u 4 this entire day.
All praises r given 2
the Father God of
Heaven above 4 He is
worthy 2 b praised,
and in full faith I
consciously accept this
manifest!
Religious:
Born and
raised n the Baptist
Church, sang n the
gospel choir, 1st
introduction 2 God,
Jesus, and
Fear! Feared God, Feared life, Feared Hell, Feared sin,
Fear death! Teachings: “When we get 2 Heaven, what a
day it will b!” In Church as a young gal I always felt that
there was something else besides what I was being told
and what was being seen...it seemed 2 b contradicting.
Experiences as I was growing up, But not taught: outer
body experiences, invisible friends, called “old soul”, felt
invincible, high sexual energy, people easily gravitate 2
me, successful at anything I put my mind 2, self educated,
understood “the game” early n life....
Then the anxiety attacks began....FEAR had caught up
with me...this WAS taught! After my 1st child, my life
changed 4evr! FEAR and DOUBT stood up against
me...Am I a good mother, do I luv the baby’s daddy, do I
luv myself, do I know what luv is, do I want this life?
Religion spoke: Get married you sinner, having a child out
of wedlock, oh no, I don’t wanna go 2 hell! 2 kid’s later
my spirit began 2 die.....alcohol, drugs, lies, adultery,
divorce....Now I’m really going 2 hell!
On the edge of my bed, high on marijuana (yes I use 2
smoke the cronik) , I cried out 2 God...”If u get me out of
this Unhappy situation, I promise I will DO whatever you
have purposed me 2 b, purposed me 2 do!” And slowly
yet peacefully, but painfully, yet peacefully, .....I made a
conscious decision 2 bgan 2 live life happy with a peace
of mind! Spirituality began 2 find me.
Began relationship with God, understanding his voice, being led
by
the Holy Spirit n EVERYTHING I do! I no longer controlled my
life, God directed my path....I have become his Obedient child!
Spirituality:
Discovered spirituality n depth, it began 2 find me,
and scared the HELL out of me! (no pun intended). Experienced
anxiety attacks more often, discovered I am an Empath: one who
is
highly sensitive to another one’s emotions and feelings. One who
sense the truth behind the cover and will act compassionately to
help that person express self, thus making them feel at ease and
not
so desperately alone. Discovered I am an Indigo adult: one who
undergoes a spiritual and physical transformation that awakens
their “Christ” consciousness as part of the evolutional wave
change. Indios are often mislabeled with psychiatric diagnoses
of
ADHD or ADD. Sadly when medicated, the Indigo often lose their
beautiful sensitivity, spiritual gifts and warrior energy.
Continued
discovery: negative energy began 2 affect me
physically....understood how to cover my self from the spirits
around me. Understood how to properly cleanse my surroundings
and free the atmosphere of the spirits. Understood there are
many
different realms and I could no longer operate the realm I was
operating on with my religious belief teachings, only. I needed
things that were tangible: sage, frankincense and myrrh,
hematite
rings, dream catchers, burden baskets, hyssop teas, crystals and
the
Star of David....
What a discovery! Wish there was sum kind of preparation 4 this
transition, it was quite a roller coaster, most people would not
have
survived this!
So how can this transition b more knowledgeable, have more
simple
understanding, less fearing, a bit smoother, more inviting, more
acceptable 2 those being affected by the shift?
This is how:

Salon Favor Owner Nicole Gallagher is Living Her Destiny
Having her own salon has always been
a big dream for Salon Favor owner, Nicole "Nikki" Gallagher. A
year ago in June, she opened up the salon in West Chester at
9274 Centre Point Drive, Suite #18. Prior to opening Salon
Favor, Gallagher worked and gained experience at Hair Advantage
in West Chester. She also opened up her first salon eight years
ago that was later sold. Gallagher is a single mother of three
who is also a proud business owner.
She has two boys and a girl, and
when she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her
children. She and her family reside in West Chester. While she
maintains a busy lifestyle, Gallagher said, "It’s all worth it,
because my children are watching me I want them to have the same
goals and aspirations on their own. I want them to know that if
their mom can do it, they can do it."
She said the name of the salon
relates to God’s favor on her life. "The favor of God is where
the name comes from." Salon Favor specializes in hair
replacements including hair weaving, fusion, and invisible
hairline units.
Gallagher said her services are
especially beneficial for those who might be experiencing hair
loss from alopecia or for those going through chemotherapy.
One aspect she enjoys the most is
the relationships with each of her clients and the opportunity
to be a part of their lives. "They are trusting us with their
hair, and so they tend to be relaxed, and comfortable with me,
and that gives me the chance to be positive and share
testimonies on how you can make it in life."
In addition to her work at the
salon, Gallagher also serves as the president of the local
chapter of BOBSA (Black-owned Beauty Supply Association,
www.bobsa.org). BOBSA’s mission is to connect the black dots!
Connect black manufacturers, to black distributors, to black
retailers, to black consumers in black communities: by
destroying the veil of economic disparity and black economic
oppression within the black hair care and beauty industry. The
hair care industry is an 8 billion dollar industry, African
Americans are 90% the consumers! It’s time that we as African
Americans use the resources around us and begin to make our
communities, our children, our culture the best that it should
be, by...Connecting the Black Dots! BOBSA Ohio Chapter
headquarter offices are within Salon Favor. Nicole is very
excited about the organization and the opportunity it presents
to the African American culture!
Gallagher also extends a special
"Thank You" to X-quisite Cuts in West Chester for their support
and to Hair Advantage for giving her an opportunity. For more
information or to schedule an appointment with Nicole Gallagher,

Nicole Gallagher- West

Published on
National Urban League (http://www.nul.org)
“I have a lot of big dreams and an
entrepreneurial spirit so it’s difficult to stay focused,” says
Nicole. “With business coaching and planning strategies from the
Urban League, instead of trying to do everything at once and
scattering my energies, I am expanding my business by taking
baby steps and my business is doing better and moving faster
than ever.”
Nicole Gallagher wasn’t satisfied with owning and operating
Salon Favor, a successful hair salon and spa in the Cincinnati
suburb of West Chester. She envisioned a holistic business that
not only would provide healthy and stylish hair care and hair
weaves, fusion and wigs, but would also “recapture Black
dollars” by selling beauty products, accessories and jewelry to
people of color, and provide expert stylist training.
She attended an Urban League economic summit, where she
networked, commiserated and strategized with other small
business owners. She engaged an Urban League volunteer business
coach and she learned that her big vision could be achieved by
taking it step-by-step.
“It’s been absolutely awesome,” Nicole says of her experience
with the Urban League’s African-American Business Development
Program. “The connections I’ve made have been very helpful. The
support of my business coach – we meet every two weeks – helps
keep me encouraged and focused. The speakers have great ideas
and advice.”
A critical piece of advice Nicole learned in the program is that
you can’t do it all and do it well. “I was doing everything
myself,” she explains. “I was too scattered to focus. So I hired
a bookkeeper and that took a lot of baggage off my back.”
This single mother of three also learned that by planning and
focusing on the strategic steps to grow her business, she has
less stress, more balance in her life and a thriving business.
“If you’re trying to get to the next level, you need help,” says
Nicole. “When you surround yourself with positivity and people
like those in the Urban League business development program,
good things happen.”
